Burglars break into Lakeland shop, take $30-grand in heavy welding machinery

Deputies in Polk County are searching for some effort burglars who were caught on cam taking heavy equipment from a Lakeland boiler service center. Three men broke into East Polk LLC in Lakeland early Sunday early morning and focused most of their attention on the pricey welding equipment.Get to know more about the site .

Tax levies win approval

Henderson Memorial Public Library authorities stated it was "thrilling" to see Tuesday's final informal counts, showing the library's 1.5-mill, five-year levy passed with about 65 percent of the vote. "It validates exactly what we felt that we had that type of assistance," said Ellen Cufr, library board president.

The levy, which replaces the library's longstanding half-mill levy and is forecasted to generate about $142,000, failed by only 24 votes in November. Many voters told the library the November ballot's phrasing was complicated and they regretted not supporting it, according to library authorities.

Penryn faced with 40,000 repair bill if library is devolved

Penryn Town Council faces a 40,000 repair expense if it takes over the running of the town's library, a building study has exposed. A complete condition survey, carried out as the town council looks to take control of the library as part of Cornwall Council's program of devolution, revealed eight products of work that needed to be performed.

The report, sent to councilors ahead of a meeting next week, revealed problems varying from roofing system cleaning and faulty guttering to a detached boiler, and said it was most likely that all the windows would require changing.
